COMMUNITY ORGANIZING IN OTHER EUROPEAN LOCATIONS By Rev. Paul Cromwell June 19, 2006 During the past two years, FOCO has made contact with persons outside of Germany who are doing or hope to do community organizing. foco President, Peter Syznka, and EKD Stipendium recipient, Rev. Paul Cromwell, were invited to be part of the Qu/A/Si Project (Quality and Accessibility of Social Services for Social Inclusion, http://www.eurodiaconia.org/quasi/index.htm). The Qu/A/Si Project is a trans-national partnership to identify best practices in overcoming social exclusion. Through Qu/A/Si, FOCO made contact with the organizations in Sweden, Czech Republic, and Slovakia listed below. Rev. Cromwell was invited in March, 2006 to present a community organizing workshop with members of the Youth Empowerment Partnership Programme (YEPP, http://www.yepp-community.org/site/index.php). YEPP was initiated by a group of foundations to establish an innovative European and trans-Atlantic partnership of the independent, public and private sectors targeting at disadvantaged children and youth and the communities they live in. Rev. Cromwell has visited one of the YEPP project sites in Tuzla, Bosnia and was also introduced to the Center for Peace, Nonviolence, and Human Rights in Osijek, Croatia. foco Member Walter Haecker and Rev. Cromwell were invited by the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung in June, 2006 to do a two-day orientation to community organizing in Romania.
